NBA fans subscribed to SKYCable got some good news on Tuesday when the company announced that the NBA Premium and Basketball TV channels will be available to its subscribers, according to an advisory on its website and social media accounts.
The development came on the eve of the opening of the 2018-2019 NBA season and a year after Solar Entertainment pulled out the two channels from SKYCable.
“Our SKY subscribers can now enjoy the NBA games on NBA Premium TV and BTV. We welcome this development as it is in keeping with the status quo order earlier issued by the court. Thank you for your patience and continued patronage,” said the advisory.
The advisory made little details about the development but last year, Solar Entertainment pulled out its two channels that contain NBA content from SKYCable reportedly due to millions of unpaid carriage fees.
The issue stemmed in the 2010 contract between the NBA, Solar, and ABS-CBN in which Solar gained the right to broadcast the league on pay TV channels NBA Premium and Basketball TV, while ABS-CBN got the rights to show the games on free TV.
Solar claimed ABS-CBN stopped paying carriage fees for its two basketball channels on SKYCable. But the pay TV company claimed the license fee it paid to the NBA already included the carriage fees for Solar.
Solar demanded P321 million in unpaid carriage fees, but ABS-CBN countered with a settlement of P80 million. When the unpaid carriage fees reached P659 million, ABS-CBN responded with a settlement of P111 million.
