FILIPINO food took the spotlight as the NBA introduced its fans to lumpia, pansit and okoy as part of its first-ever Filipino Heritage Week on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).
The video shared by the league featured the Lutong Pinoy Filipino Cuisine restaurant in North Miami, Florida which is home to the Miami Heat, coached by Filipino-American Erik Spoelstra.
In celebrating Filipino heritage, FOX Heat reporter Kristen Hewitt visited the establishment which serves Filipino cuisine in the traditional turo-turo manner. She sampled some of the popular dishes in traditional Pinoy-style, using her bare hands.
Aside from chopsuey and turkey egg rolls, Hewitt also tried Spoelstra’s favorite dish of chicken adobo with jasmine rice.
The Heat is one of the most popular teams among Filipinos, 5.8 million of whom are followers of the team’s Facebook page.
