WHILE many basketball fans watched the Golden State Warriors dismantle the Portland Trailblazers in Game 2, 110-99, in their Western Conference semifinals series, sneakerheads were captivated by something else, particularly the shoes the injured reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry was wearing on the sidelines.
The Warriors star sat out the game as he was still recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the previous round. But Curry cheered courtside wearing white-hot sneakers from Filling Pieces, an Amsterdam-based shoe brand that blends high fashion with streetwear in their design.
Guillaume Philibert, chairman and founder of Filling Pieces, even posted a photo of Curry wearing the brand's Low Top Perforated Stripe sneakers on his Instagram account.
Curry, though, is widely known as an endorser of Under Armour but he isn't violating anything in his endorsement deal by wearing a different shoe brand at courtside. According to Pierce Simpson of Complex.com, it's a common practice among NBA players that they can wear shoes from a non-competitor of their endorsed brand off the court.
In fact, other NBA stars like Curry's teammate Draymond Green and Cavs big man Tristan Thompson have worn Saint Laurent sneakers post-games even as they have endorsement deals with Nike.
The Filling Pieces pair Curry wore costs around US$250. Check out more details on the shoe on their website fillingpieces.com.
