A MALL of Asia executive said on Tuesday they will look deeper into reports of massive hoarding of tickets to the highly anticipated NBA preseason game featuring the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers this October at the MOA Arena.
Saying the MOA Arena is determined to ensure basketball fans of equal opportunities to purchase tickets to the historic game, Mall of Asia business unit head Arnel Gonzales reiterated the company's two-tickets-per-person policy amid reports that some buyers were allowed to buy hundreds of tickets in one transaction when the sale opened on Sunday.
“We’ve read some published reports online. Madami kasing articles na lumabas tungkol sa tickets sold. We will investigate that because like what we said before, we’re limiting it to two tickets per person,” Gonzales told Spin.ph on Tuesday.
Gonzales said they have a total of 48 SM ticket outlets nationwide and a website (www.smtickets.ph) that sell tickets to the event dubbed the 'NBA Global Game.'
The MOA executive added that in a matter of hours, the 400 tickets allotted for the P550 Section E seat were sold out just hours after being put on sale.
“I haven’t seen the detail reports but the 400-seat Section E or the P550 seat was practically sold out in a matter of hours. Law of supply and demand iyan kaya kung maubusan man yung isang pumipila, it’s because may kasabay pa siya na bumibili online,” explained Gonzales.
Gonzales also pleaded with NBA fans to buy tickets only from authorized SM ticket outlets to prevent scalpers from earning a fortune.
“Kaya naman two tickets per person lang, eh at least, kung may magbe-benta man ng tickets, yung chance na maging entrepreneur for that matter will be minimized,” he added.
Gonzales assured that SM Tickets has layers of security measures in place to ensure that a person can only purchase two tickets in one transaction.
"We have so many layers of security so we are able to track them (transactions)," he said.
On Sunday, SPIN.ph has learned that a number of customers took advantage of the lenient sale by hoarding an unreasonable number of tickets from all sections at the SM Ticket outlet at SM Centerpoint in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Eyewitnesses said that one man was allowed to purchase more than 200 tickets amounting to more than P500,000 in a single transaction. He then let his sister cut in and buy hundreds more to the dismay of the other fans waiting in line.
As of posting time, Gonzales said there are still over 1,500 tickets costing P4,200 each available at Section D; around 1,000 tickets at Section C (P8,400); and a few hundreds in Premium A (P32,300) and B (P27,000).
Courtside Yellow has the most expensive seats at P54,000 per ticket.
