MOA security 'adequate' for big NBA entourage

MANAGEMENT of the Mall of Asia Arena assured the public that its security personnel will be up to the task when the state-of-the-art venue hosts the first-ever NBA preseason game in the country on October 10.

MOA business unit head Arnel Gonzales said the security and safety of the paying patrons have always been the venue’s priority since opening its doors to both local and international artists, sporting events, and even conventions involving government officials.

“The Mall of Asia Arena has its own set of standard security and safety rules, and we would like to assure everyone that this is what we are taking seriously even in a world-class event like the NBA,” Gonzales told Spin.ph.

“We’re working closely with the NBA as far as its (security) requirement is concerned. While other details are still being discussed, we do have our own security. And based on our calculation and standards, it’s (security personnel) already enough for our facility.

“Now, if they have a VIP and they want a close-in security, we’ll calibrate on that request. Case-to-case lang but pretty much, we’re already adhering to international standard,” explained Gonzales.

The MOA executive said the burglary incident inside the Meralco dugout during the course of the PBA Philippine Cup game between the Bolts and Globalport Batang Pier was an isolated case.

He said that since then, the venue had hosted numerous successful concerts and big sporting shows with no such untoward incidents, proof that management has taken care of security issues and ready to handle events as big as the NBA preseason game.

Since opening to the public in May last year, MOA had hosted local sporting events like the PBA, UAAP, and NCAA and various concerts featuring both local and international artists.
