Ramon Sessions and Jeremy Lamb came off the bench to score 12 points apiece for Charlotte, which next takes on the titleholders Cleveland Cavaliers.
Only two players scored in double figures for Orlando, which shot 26 percent and absorbed its second straight loss.
Evan Fournier had 14 points and Serge Ibaka came up with 12 as the Magic suffered their 14th loss in 24 games.
