MARC Gasol and Zach Randolph took charge in the overtime periods to help Memphis outlast an error-prone Philadelphia squad, 104-99, as the Grizzlies nabbed its sixth straight win on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time) at the Wells Fargo Center.
Gasol and Randolph had two big baskets each in the second overtime but needed to take advantage of the Sixers sloppy play, with costly turnovers on back-to-back possessions. After a Jerryd Bayless layup put the Sixers within one, 98-99, Conley sank crucial free throws to seal the win for Memphis.
Philadelphia started slow in both overtime periods, going scoreless in the first four minutes of the first overtime before Bayless scored five straight points to tie the game at 91 and force another five minutes of play. In the second extension, the Sixers went without a field goal in four minutes before Bayless’ drive.
Gasol had 27 points while Conley added 25 for the Grizzlies, who now stand at 10-5 after a 4-5 start. Randolph scored six of his 11 points after regulation.
Ilyasova had a season-high 22 points and 12 rebound but fouled out late in the second overtime. Joel Embiid finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with three blocks but sat out the second overtime as he had played three minutes beyond the team’s 24-minute restriction for him. Robert Covington also had a double-double of 19 markers and 10 boards while Bayless added 18 off the bench but the Sixers had 26 turnovers to fall to 4-11.
