THE Memphis Grizzlies are coming into training camp with a big boost as Marc Gasol has been cleared to play after recovering from a broken right foot.
In a report by The Commercial Appeal’s Ronald Tillery, Gasol will be a full participant when the Grizzlies open camp in a little over a week. The two-time NBA All-Star is set to return after suffering the foot injury last February, which caused him to miss the rest of the season as well as an Olympic stint with Spain last month.
Gasol stayed in Spain during the offseason to rehab his foot while being monitored closely by Grizzlies team management. The 7-foot center has recently been back with the team in Memphis to continue strength and conditioning work and join the entire roster for informal workouts since September 5, according to sources.
Team insiders also add that the Memphis organization is thrilled with Gasol’s return to form on the basketball court after taking a cautious approach in the Spanish big man’s rehabilitation.
Memphis will have its media day on September 26 and opens camp the next day at FedEx Forum.
