MARC Gasol tied his career-high of 38 points as the Memphis Grizzlies broke out of a three-game losing slump by beating the Detroit Pistons, 98-86, in a meeting of struggling teams on Wednesday in Auburn Hills, Michigan (Thursday, Manila time).
Gasol was 14 for 17 from the field and also finished with five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals for the Grizzlies who are coming off a tough overtime loss against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
JaMychal Green added 10 points and nine rebounds, Mike Conley had nine points and five assists as 11 of the Memphis players who saw action went on to score.
The Pistons were up 14-13 in the opening stage when Memphis went on a 27-8 run to make it 40-22 at the 7:50 mark of the second quarter.
Detroit rallied in the third quarter and were able to close the gap to 65-61 before Gasol fueled another a 14-2 burst to make it 79-63 at the end of the period.
Reggie Jackson and Jon Leuer both scored 18 points for the Pistons who lost their fourth straight game and five of their last six, all with double-digit margins. Andre Drummond had 13 markers and 19 rebounds.
