MAGIC Johnson reportedly chided coach Luke Walton as the Lakers endure a tough start in the first season with four-time MVP LeBron James.
The Lakers, still trying out different starting squads, are 3-5 and Johnson reportedly had an aggressive tone in discussing matters with the young coach after back-to-back road losses. Walton was hired head coach before Johnson was tapped to take over as president of basketball operations.
Walton talked about his relationship with the Lakers management when asked about the report.
"I feel like I have a great relationship with management, yes," said the 38-year-old Walton.
"I feel like I'm coming down here to do my job and coach."
Walton, former assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors, refused to provide details from the meeting but expressed confidence the Lakers will be fine.
He noted the suspensions of Rajon Rondo, out two games, and Brandon Ingram, banned four matches, hurt the team.
"What we discuss in our meetings is between us, but ... we have been saying since the beginning, we're going to be patient.”
“We know where we're going, we know how to get there, and it takes time and it takes hard work. Right now, our guys work extremely hard. We've had a couple setbacks with some suspensions, but we've played some good teams and we've had a chance to win a lot of those games.
"We plan on winning those in the future, and we're going to keep working and getting better and we're going to be just fine."
