D’ANGELO Russell hit a clutch triple to help the Los Angeles Lakers douse a fiery Phoenix Suns late-game rally and come away with a 122-110 win at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).
The Lakers broke out of an 8-game losing streak in what looked like an easy win after starting out the second half strong and building a 21-point lead with 4:52 left in the fourth quarter. But the Suns came storming back with a 15-1 run to get within seven, 117-110, at the 51-second mark.
Russell then hit a booming triple and followed it up with a pair of free throws to avert another Lakers collapse.
Six players finished in double figures for the Lakers (20-45) led by Russell’s 28 points, including six triples. Jordan Clarkson added 19 markers off the bench, while Brandon Ingram and Ivica Zubac each had 14. Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr also scored 13 apiece.
Devin Booker led the Suns (21-44) with 23 points, while Marquese Chriss chipped in 18 markers. TJ Warren added 17, while Alan Williams had a double-double off the Phoenix bench with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
