SHORTLY after reports began surfacing that LaMarcus Aldridge will not sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant went to Twitter to react to reports that his presence on the team is scaring away high-profile free agents.
According to an ESPN report, Aldridge was not impressed with the Lakers' free-agent pitch on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time), particularly on the basketball aspect which was claimed to be too unfocused for the big man.
A team official told the Los Angeles Times that the trouble wasn't Kobe's fault. According to ESPN, Bryant told Aldridge their dynamic in Los Angeles would be similar to the Laker star's and Pau Gasol's during their two championship runs.
With Aldridge noncommittal after the meeting with the Lakers, online speculation is that Bryant's presence was keeping stars away from Southern California.
