THE Lakers are 0-2 in the preseason and No. 2 pick D’Angelo Russell has an early injury scare, but excitement is brewing at the Los Angeles Lakers camp.

Julius Randle is looking to make up for lost time and has shown fine performances in the preseason.

The numbers aren’t big for Randle, with seven points in the preseason opener and 16 in the second, both against Utah.

But the forward who broke his leg in last season’s opener after being picked seventh overall in the 2014 draft, is showing flashes of brilliance.

He got the biggest praise from the Lakers main man himself.

"He was excellent," Kobe Bryant said in a report by Baxter Holmes of ESPN.

"He played extremely hard. He played extremely well. He put the ball on the floor, he made plays, attacked the rim, offensive glass, moved his feet defensively. He was very sharp."

Bryant has been pleased with the arrival of the young guns, telling Russell after the draft “Let’s shock da world this season.”

Now Bryant is also seeing the potential of the player that failed to live up to the pre-draft hype because of the shocking injury.

"It's not normal to see a guy that size move his feet so well and have such quick hands and be able to push the ball on the break ..." Bryant said. "It's pretty phenomenal."
