KOBE Paras is being primed as perhaps the country’s brightest hope to become the first pure Filipino to make it to the NBA.
On Thursday, he got an opportunity to go up against an NBA player - and an iconic one at that.
The 17-year-old Paras faced Cleveland Cavalier superstar LeBron James in an exhibition match highlighting the Nike Rise Tour at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Their moment together was brief that saw Paras posted up against James in the final moments of the game between Team Black and Team White.
Paras missed the fadeaway shot, though.
It wasn’t the first time James encountered the Filipino teen sensation.
Two years ago during LeBron’s first visit in Manila, Paras provided the highlight reel of a similar exhibition game when he dunked over the then-Miami Heat star, the video of which went viral on YouTube.
Although their moment was short, the opportunity served as a good experience for the youngest son of Filipino cage great Benjie Paras as this early the young Paras is being considered as the first likely homegrown Filipino to see action in the NBA especially with Kobe already committed to play for University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in college next year.
