Knicks launch 3s, beat Bulls for sixth straight win

CHICAGO — RJ Barrett scored 27 points and the New York Knicks again used 3-point shooting to beat the Chicago Bulls, 114-91 on Friday night (Saturday, Manila time) to sweep the two-game set and run their winning streak to six.

Jalen Brunson and Quentin Grimes each added 22 points to help the Knicks follow their 128-120 overtime victory over the Bulls on Wednesday night. New York, which entered 26th in the NBA in 3-point shooting, was 17 for 44 on 3s after going 18 of 34 two nights earlier.

Brunson made a career-high six shots on nine attempts from beyond the arc, Grimes was 5 of 9 from long-range and Barrett went 3 of 5.

Julius Randle had 19 points and 12 rebounds for New York. The Knicks outrebounded Chicago 50-39 and held an opponent to fewer than 100 points for the fifth time during the winning streak.

The Bulls committed 20 turnovers to New York's 10.

    Timberwolves top Thunder

    Naz Reid

NAZ Reid scored a season-high 28 points and the shorthanded Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Thunder, 112-110, in Oklahoma City to snap a three-game losing streak.

Making his first start of the season, Reid finished one point short of his career high set last season against Oklahoma City. His NBA rebounding high of 18 was established earlier this month versus the Thunder, too.

Austin Rivers scored 20 points and Anthony Edwards added 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Timberwolves. Minnesota was without injured starters Rudy Gobert (sprained left ankle), Karl-Anthony Towns (right calf strain) and D'Angelo Russell (bruised left knee).

Reid helped offset those absences by making 11 of 18 field goals and grabbing nine rebounds.

Doncic, Wood lead Mavs past Blazers

Luka Doncic scored 33 points, Christian Wood had a season-high 32 points along with 12 rebounds and the Mavericks beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 130-110, in Dallas.

Two of Dallas' top three scorers each had 20 before halftime — the NBA scoring leader Doncic with 23 to 20 for Wood — and combined to make 22 of 35 from the field as Dallas shot 56 percent.

Damian Lillard also had 20 before the break with 21, but finished with 24 to end a four-game streak of at least 35 points that was tied for the longest in the NBA this season with Philadelphia's Joel Embiid.

    Trae Young

TRAE Young scored 31 points, Bogdan Bogdanovic made the most of his first start of the season with 28 points on 7-of-10 shooting from 3-point range and the depleted Atlanta Hawks handed the Charlotte Hornets their seventh straight loss, 125-106.

AJ Griffin had 13 points and Frank Kaminsky added 12 off the bench for the Hawks, who built a 24-point lead while shooting 63 percent from the field in the first half. The Hawks withstood a 16-2 run by the Hornets to start the second half and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Atlanta (15-15) won despite playing without Clint Capela (calf strain), John Collins (ankle sprain) and Dejounte Murray (ankle sprain).

Led by Boganovic, the Hawks got off to a great start with 50 points in the first 16 minutes and shot 51.7 percent (15 of 29) from beyond the arc.

Mitchell scores 41 as Cavs down Pacers

DONOVAN Mitchell scored 18 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter and the Cavaliers rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Indiana Pacers, 118-112, in Cleveland.

Mitchell buried his eighth 3-pointer of the game with 3:41 remaining, putting Cleveland ahead for good at 112-110. Indiana had taken its largest lead earlier in the fourth at 103-90 on a 3-pointer by Aaron Nesmith.

The Cavaliers outscored the Pacers 35-18 in the final period, holding Indiana without a field goal in the final 5:42. Cleveland improved to 13-2 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, tying Memphis for the best home record in the NBA.

The 28-9 game-ending run followed a feisty exchange between Mitchell and Pacers rookie Bennedict Mathurin, who both tightly held onto the ball after a whistle. Their arms remained entangled for nearly 30 seconds after a foul was called on Mitchell, but no words were exchanged.

Irving triple at buzzer lifts Nets over Raptors

KYRIE Irving hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Brooklyn Nets rallied to beat the Raptors, 119-116, in Toronto, extending their winning streak to a season-high five.

Irving scored 15 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter, eluding Toronto's Fred VanVleet to connect on the decisive basket — the first game-winning buzzer-beater of his NBA career.

Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said he planned to give Kevin Durant the ball for the final shot, but Durant convinced Vaughn to let Irving shoot instead.

It was Brooklyn's first game-winning buzzer-beater since Brook Lopez hit one in a home victory over Detroit on March 21, 2017.
