KLAY Thompson fired back at a “bitter” Doc Rivers after the Clippers coach indicated the Golden State Warriors were lucky to win in the tough Western Conference.
“Didn't they lose to the Rockets? So that just makes me laugh. That's funny. Weren't they up, 3-1, too? Tell them I said that too," Thompson was quoted as saying by Melissa Rohlin of the LA Times.
It was in response to Rivers’ comment in a recent interview with Grantland saying "You need luck in the West. Look at Golden State. They didn't have to play us or the Spurs."
Thompson told reporters on Friday (Saturday, Manila time): "That sounds pretty bitter to me."
The LA Clippers edged the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs last season before being sent packing by the Houston Rockets in the conference semifinals.
"If we got lucky, look at our record against them last year... I'm pretty sure we smacked them," Thompson said.
He was referring to the Warriors season record against the Clippers and the Golden State gunner made clear he wanted to take on Rivers’ boys in the playoffs
"I wanted to play the Clippers last year, but they couldn't handle their business."
