ROBERT Covington hit a huge shot from beyond the arc and Joel Embiid was steady from the stripe in the dying moments as the Sixers edged the Miami Heat, 101-94, on Monday in Philadelphia (Tuesday, Manila time).

It was the first back-to-back wins for the Sixers, who were coming off a big victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Embiid’s shots off a Hassan Whiteside foul gave the Sixers a two-point cushion and Covington’s triple at the three-minute mark padded the lead to five, 96-91.

Cameroonian big man Embiid again drew a foul, this time on Udonis Haslem, and stretched the Sixers lead to eight.

The Sixers scored their fourth win in 14 outings, while ending the Heat’s win run at two.

Whiteside finished with 32 points, Dion Waiters had 19 and Goran Dragic scored 10 for Miami, which absorbed its ninth loss in 13 outings.
