    Jason Kidd on being linked to Lakers coaching job: ‘You can't turn that down’

    JASON Kidd is eager to return to coaching at any level, and he is among the top candidates to take over at University of California while also being rumored to be in the mix to take over the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers.

    Luke Walton remains in charge of the Lakers but it is widely known he is on the way out, and Kidd was asked by The Jump host Rachel Nichols about the job and the Basketball Hall of Famer is keen to take on the challenge.

    "When you look at the Lakers as a whole, it's a franchise that is one of the best in the world," said Kidd, former coach of the Nets and the Bucks.

    "So, if you ever have the opportunity to wear the purple and gold, you can't turn that down as a coach, as a player, because they're all about championships."

    The Olympic gold medalist has also been linked to Cal Berkeley after the Golden Bears dismissed Wyking Jones.

    “I think Cal is a great institution. We’ll see what happens. I would love to get back to coaching at any level, college or the NBA. So, it’s nice to be wanted," Kidd said.

    "That just tells me I’m doing the right thing. The year off helped me clean up some things too. Just to refocus and to have that energy, understanding the kids being around the AAU circuit a little bit, and understanding what’s more important to the kids today.”

    The Bucks dismissed Kidd in January last year after two playoff appearances in four seasons under the former NBA star.
