A YEAR after he signed a 13-year, $200 million deal with adidas, James Harden has officially released his first signature shoe.
Dubbed the Harden Vol.1, the model is the collaboration between the high-scoring guard of the Houston Rockets and the German shoe and apparel brand.
“This was my first time creating a shoe form the ground up. With adidas, we want to stand up for something different, be true to who we are and that’s how we separate ourselves,” Harden said during the unveiling on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time). ‘It’s built for how I play and you’ll see my style, different moods, the little details and stories that represent who I am.”
“Pioneer’, the first colorway to be released, is in the red, black and white colors of Lakewood’s Artesua High School team which Harden lead to a California state title in 2007, a feat that marked the rise of the future NBA star.
The new shoe bears several personal touches: Harden’s logo is on the tongue and his signature appears on the medial side of both pairs. The birthdays of his mother and grandmother are molded on the outsoles.
The iconic 3 stripes are located on the heel counter.
From a technical standpoint, the Three Stripes have given the kicks full-length BOOST foam cushioning as seen from the shoe’s medial side, an unconventional toebox that emphasizes protection from defenders stepping on Harden when he creates contact on a play and an asymmetrical lacing system that aims to remove pressure from the top of the foot. The traction pattern was designed through 3D printing and addressed pressure points on the foot and to give Harden maximum traction based on his style of play.
The upper is made from a combination of full grain leather, knit and mesh material for improved flexibility.
The Harden Vol. 1 Pioneer launches in Manila on November 23 for P7,995, with additional colorway drops throughout the season.
