ARE the Paul George and John Young really related?

A person who specializes in genealogy came up with paperwork showing UNiversity of Oregon’s Joe Young is related with Paul George. The two, who may be distant cousins, are set to play together after the Pacers picked the former in the second round of the NBA draft last week.

According to the Indianapolis Star, the family connection dates back to twin sisters Merice and Olympe Donato in Louisiana in the 1800s.

Alex Da’Paul Lee of Texas, who specializes in genealogy, sent the paperwork to prove the relationship. He also claims to be related to both Young and George.

Merice is George’s paternal fourth great-grandmother and Olympe is Young’s maternal fourth-great grandmother, which makes them fifth cousins.

The paperwork confirming the relationship between the players came in Monday, but Young only found out about it the day after he was drafted.
