    Jazz make it back-to-back wins and send Lakers to third straight loss

    GORDON Hayward had 23 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Utah jazz edged the depleted Los Angeles Lakers 107-101 at the Staples Center on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).

    Hayward shot 3 for 6 from three point range and seven for 16 overall as he led the Jazz to its 13th win in 22 games.  

    It was a close game at the half with Utah up by just four, 57-53, before Hayward scored 10 points on a 14-1 run to start the third quarter.

    The Jazz weathered a 13-4 Laker rally at the start of the last period. A jumper by Lou Williams cut the deficit to 100-97 with 3:26 remaining on the clock.  

    Utah recovered as Rodney Hood sank a three pointer and later followed it with a turnaround fade away shot to make it 105-97 to close out the game.

    Hood had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Rudy Gobert had a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Boris Diaw had 12 points while Dante Exum and Shelvin Mack scored 10 apiece for the Jazz which won its second straight game.

    Williams led LA with 38 points. Jordan Clarkson added 17 while Julius Randle finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Timofey Mozgov had 10 points.    

    It was the third straight loss for the young Lakers (10-13) who lost Tarik Black after the center sprained his ankle in the third quarter. Also on the injured list are D’Angelo Russell (knee), Jose Calderon (right hamstring strain), Larry Nance Jr (right knee contusion) and Nick Young (calf).
