STEPH Curry and Klay Thompson found a great third wheel in former Spur David West as the Golden State Warriors overcame a slow start to nab a rare victory in San Antonio, 110-98, on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
Trailing by 22 early, Warriors went on a 16-2 run to tie the game at 45 with 3:29 to go in the second quarter before the Spurs maintained a slim 57-54 lead at the break. Curry then dropped 13 of 29 in the third to put Golden State ahead by seven, 84-77, into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors extended the gap to 10 after a 7-of-7 start, with Thompson and West doing most of the damage, combining for 15 of the Warriors 19 early points in the period to go ahead,103-93, with 4:09 to play.
San Antonio struggled to buy a basket the rest of the way as Curry and West kept crushing the Spurs with their exceptional pick-and-roll plays nab the rare win and extend their winning run to nine games.
West dropped 11 of his 15 points in the fourth, while Thompson had nine of his 23 markers in the last frame as the Warriors (61-14) extended their lead for the league’s best record over the Spurs (57-17) to 3.5 games.
Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 19 points on just 7-of-20 shooting as San Antonio saw their five-game win streak snapped. Pau Gasol added 18 markers off the bench, while LaMarcus Aldridge and Danny Green scored 17 and 16, respectively.
