GOLDEN State Warriors superstar Steph Curry came and went to Manila in a whirlwind tour over the weekend.
Conspicuously not around to meet him was the most recognizable Filipino world personality who’s an avid fan of the reigning NBA champions.
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao cancelled his supposed Saturday dinner with the reigning league MVP as he had to fly back to GenSan and attend to an important meeting with local government officials.
“Charter anniversary kasi ng city (GenSan) and he has a commitment to LGU officials,” said a Pacquiao insider.
At the same time, the 36-year-old Pacquiao played and coached Mahindra during a mini-tournament that featured the Enforcers and the Globalport Batang Pier, among others.
“Yes, naglaro siya against Globalport,” added the insider about the game which the Batang Pier won at about the same time Curry was doing his thing at the Mall of Asia Arena for his Under Armour Roadshow Manila leg.
The boxing star and Sarangani province congressman won’t be back in Manila until Wednesday.
Pacquiao is a certified Warriors fan who wished and later, congratulated Curry and Co. when they won the NBA championship at the expense of the Cleveland Cavaliers last June.
Curry recalled during his visit the time the Filipino ring idol visited the Warriors training facility last year when he was preparing for his title fight against New Yorker Chris Algieri. Pacquiao and his entourage even played a couple of games at the Golden State headquarters.
Just last April prior to the playoffs, Curry send Pacquiao a personally signed jersey as the boxing icon was in the midst of his training for his welterweight megafight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The NBA star later took time out and had his photo taken with Pacquiao’s two sons, Michael and Jimwell, after the Pacman’s kids watched the game between the Warriors and the LA Clippers at the Staples Center.
Just before flying out of Manila Saturday night, Curry promises to comeback in the country in the near future, tagging along with him his adorable daughter Riley.
Hopefully, by that time, he’ll be able to finally meet up with his number one fan in the country.
