MIKEE Romero is a top businessman and a well-known sportsman who has his own team in the PBA and dabbles in several sports, the latest being polo.
But on this day, the Globalport team owner is first and foremost a dad as he took time off his busy business schedule to accompany his youngest son Santi to see basketball superstar LeBron James in the flesh.
A certified fan of the Miami Heat star, Santi, a Grade 3 student at La Salle Greenhills, even had to skip classes during the recent NBA Finals just to watch James play against Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs.
“Si Santi ang talagang LeBron James fan,” Romero told Spin.ph hours before James’ appearance at the Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
Romero said it was difficult to get tickets for his family which he expected all along considering James' stock has risen after leading the Heat to their second NBA championship last month.
“Mahirap maghagilap ng ticket. Actually hiwa-hiwalay kami, may lower box, saka may patron tickets lang kaming nakuha. Ako binigyan lang ng Meralco ng ticket sa VIP,” he added.
For his part, Santi longed for the chance to ask James one simple question if ever he gets an opportunity to talk to the two-time Olympic gold medallist.
“I’ll ask him how did he feel when he sealed the (NBA) championship,” he said.
Romero said if given a chance, he’d like to personally meet the NBA’s two-time Finals MVP as he only watched him from a distance during the 2012 London Olympics.
“Yes, of course I want to meet him, and if ever, gusto ko sana siyang kuning import namin next conference,” said Romero in jest.
“Kaya lang mahal.”
