General manager Ernie Grunfeld announced the move Thursday (Friday, Manila time), calling Thornton "a proven veteran who gives us experience and scoring off the bench and will add depth at the two-guard position."

Thornton averaged 8.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14 games with the Wizards last season after signing as a free agent March 9 when he was waived by the Houston Rockets.

In 450 NBA games with seven teams, the 29-year-old has averaged 12.3 points and 2.8 rebounds.
