    Strong start earns Sixers victory over slumping Wizards

    A STRONG start gave the Sixers an early double-digit lead and held off a late fightback from the Washington Wizards for a 109-102 victory on Wednesday in Philadelphia (Thursday, Manila time).

    Jahlil Okafor led the way for the Sixers, who stunned the Wizards with a 29-15 first quarter and went on to stop a two-game slide.

    Okafor finished with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting, while Ersan Ilyasova scored 16 as the Sixers scored only their second win in 11 outings.

    The Sixers, who were without Joel Embiid, dealt the Wizards their third straight loss.

    John Wall had 27 points for Washington, which absorbed its eighth defeat in 10 games.

    Markieff Morris scored 19 points and Otto Porter added 15 for Washington.
