    Dwight Howard officially signs one-year $2.6M deal with Sixers

    DWIGHT Howard became the first announced free-agent signing of this offseason, completing his one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

    He signed on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).

    Players on certain kinds of contracts, like the veteran minimum one he agreed to on Friday night, did not have to wait for the traditional signing period to begin Sunday.

    Howard heads to Philadelphia after helping the Los Angeles Lakers win this past season's NBA title.

    Davis Bertans is staying with the Wizards on a five-year deal worth $80 million, a person with knowledge of the details told AP.

    Bertans picked a good time for his best season, averaging 15.4 points in 54 games. He skipped the restart at Walt Disney World rather than risk injury before free agency.
