NBA legend Clyde “The Glide” Drexler and former NBA stars Robert Horry and Jalen Rose will visit Manila for the Global Games Philippines 2013 next month.
The Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers play on Oct. 10 at the MOA Arena for the first-ever NBA preseason game in the Philippines.
Former Portland Trailblazer and Houston Rocket Drexler, considered as one of the greatest who played in the NBA, will be joined by Horry, who won NBA rings with three different teams; and Rose, who played alongside Reggie Miller at Indiana.
Drexler and Horry have been to the Philippines before as part of NBA Madness 2011 and NBA Asia Challenge 2010.
Horry, who won championships with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs, said he is looking forward to his second trip to Manila.
“The fans are very passionate about the game. I’ve been very, very fortunate to travel to a bunch of places and experience different cultures. And everyone has that love for you. Even though sometimes they don’t know who you are, they know the NBA; they know the NBA brand and they come out and support it because they know it’s going to be a fun-filled event. It’s just a wonderful feeling to still be associated with the NBA even though you’re not playing,” said Horry.
The NBA has been staging games outside of the US since 1978. The 2013-14 season, however, will have the most number of NBA teams and players playing internationally in a single season. The full 2013-14 NBA Global Games features 12 NBA teams playing 10 regular season and pre-season games in 10 cities in seven countries and territories.
After the MOA stop, the Rockets and Pacers play in Taipei on October 13.
