DERRICK Rose rocked the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in his first public appearance for his Adidas Manila tour, thrilling the crowd by leading a Thailand 3-on-3 team to an 11-9 victory over PBA stars Chris Tiu, Josh Urbiztondo, and JC Intal on Sunday.
Rose's game winner from way out capped a brief but entertaining appearance for the Chicago Bulls superstar, thrilling a big crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum that broke into chants of ‘MVP! MVP!’ the moment Rose appeared in a make-shift stage.
Rose also had a question-and-answer portion with DJs Sam YG, Slick Rick, and Tony Toni where he bared that his favorite game-winning moment came when his team won the high school state championship.
“We actually cheated because it was like three seconds left on the clock but they stopped the game and we won (the game),” said Rose as the crowd erupted in laughter.
But it was the game-winning shot from downtown which Rose converted over which fans will long remember as it broke 9-all contest. Tiu missed his own attempt at a game-tying deuce.
Thailand gained a chance to play with Rose after beating a Philippine team from Arellano University, 11-9.
The Chicago Bulls franchise player also joined the skills game, winning a Shooting Star contest in tandem with actress Isabelle Daza against football stars Phil and James Younghusband.
Rose likewise played in the three-point shootout against Tiu and Urbiztondo, with the Rain or Shine rookie guard winning the contest by scoring 15 points.
A press conference is scheduled for Rose on Monday before guesting in an Adidas video game tournament at the Mall of Asia Atrium.
