Atlanta Hawks waste huge early lead but hold on to beat Denver Nuggets

DENNIS Schroder had 24 points and 10 assists as the Atlanta Hawks outlasted the Denver Nuggets, 117-106, on Wednesday night (Thursday, Manila time).

The Hawks held the lead from the opening tip but had to deal with a late rally by Denver which reduced Atlanta’s advantage to 109-105 after a basket by Gary Harris with less than three minutes left.

Denver was unable to capitalize with a Hawks turnover. Paul Millsap scored on a three-point play to extend the lead to seven at the 1:47 mark. Two free throws from Schroder sealed the win.

Millsap had 23 points for Atlanta. Kent Bazemore and Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 14 apiece.

Wilson Chandler led Denver with 24 points. Nikola Jokic finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Denver forward Kenneth Faried left the game in the second quarter after spraining his right ankle. The team said X-ray results were negative.
