DeMarcus Cousins takes charge in endgame as Kings hold off Lakers

DEMARCUS Cousins had 40 points, 16 coming in the fourth, as the Sacramento Kings held off a late Los Angeles Lakers rally, 97-96, on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time) for their fourth straight win.

Cousins, who also grabbed12 rebounds and made eight assists, scored the King’s last nine points, including a 27-footer, to preserve the road win for the Kings, their 24th in 56 games.

Lou Williams tied the game at 96 with a triple, 30 second remaining.

Cousins split his free throws off a Larry Nance foul and Williams missed a running pull up jumper as time expired.

The Kings were up 79-70 in the fourth quarter when the Lakers came back on back-back baskets by Jordan Clarkson and Williams.

Darren Collison had 13 points and eight assists, while Ben McLemore went 3 of 5 from downtown and wound up with 13 points.

Williams had 29 points off the bench for the Lakers who have the second worst record in the Western Conference.

Julius Randle had 11 points and seven rebounds while Nick Young added 10, the only starters to score in double figures for LA.
