DANNY Green says it will be tough but the Los Angeles Lakers need to make things work without Avery Bradley.
The Lakers play in the the NBA’s season resumption in Florida without Bradley, who last week said he needs to be with his family, as his six-year-old son has a history of respiratory illnesses.
Teams are allowed to sign replacements ahead of the restart, but Green knows it will be different without the guard that has helped them to a Western Conference-leading 49-14 record.
“My understanding is that he made the decision because one of his sons has a health issue. And if that’s the case, of course I understand that there are some things that are bigger than basketball,” told Inside the Green Room.
“… we’re going to need him, we really want him there, it would be great to have him there but we can’t. We have to go to war without him. His family comes first, more importantly.
“Hopefully things work out for him and his family. … Hopefully we can continue to make him proud and win some games and make some things happen without him. It’s going to be tough. It was a little blow to the team seeing he’s not going to be there with us.”
Bradley, who started 44 games this season, stands to lose $650,000 in salary by opting out of the NBA restart.
The Lakers are reportedly finalizing a deal to sign free agent JR Smith, part of LeBron James’ crew in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ championship run in 2016.
