CANADA is off to a fine start with a comfortable win over Turkey but Cory Joseph noted they still have things to work on their game as they try to top the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The Toronto Raptors guard led the way as Canada downed Turkey in the tournament opener on Tuesday at MOA Arena.
“We did pretty good. We were able to run and play our pace. But we still have to work. We got outrebounded. We will try to fix that,” said Joseph.
Canada takes on Senegal on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 Joseph scored 21 points in 34 minutes of play, hitting 8-of-17 from the field, while also dishing out five assists.
Canada coach Jay Triano hailed the efforts of the Toronto Raptors guard in leading his team to victory.
“I though Cory was outstanding. He had a good feel of the game with his ability to use off the pick-and-roll. He got his teammates involved. He joined us a little bit late but he did a great job for us,” said Triano.
Joseph scoring 10 points in the third quarter including a jumper just before the period ended to give his squad a 59-47 lead.
