THE streaking LA Clippers absorbed a huge hit on Wednesday after it was determined Chris Paul will need to undergo surgery and will be out six to eight weeks.
Initial tests on showed no major injury in the left thumb but a more detailed scan revealed a torn ligament.
The Clippers extended their win streak to seven with a big victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, but lost Paul early when the playmaker hurt his thumb as he tried to move around a screen set by Joffrey Lauvergne for Russell Westbrook.
Paul will undergo surgery on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
The Clipers are already without Blake Griffin, who underwent a minor knee surgery in December.
Paul is averaging 17.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.25 steals.
