WHILE players are gearing up for training camp, the situation remains unclear for the Cavaliers Tristan Thompson.
The 24-year-old Canadian has yet to come to terms with Cleveland, and with training camps approaching, “there isn't much optimism on either side,” according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Thompson may be looking at signing the one-year qualifying offer made by the Cavs at $6.9 million, because the long-term offer is quite a bit off what the 2011 No. 4 pick wants.
The Cavaliers offer is $80 million though five years, while Thompson is eyeing a $94 million deal.
If Thompson signs the $6.9 million deal, he will become an unrestricted free agent next year.
LeBron James, who shares the same agent as Thompson, will get $22.9 million this year, while Kevin Love is set to receive $19.5 million and Kyrie Irving $14.7 million.
