THE Cleveland Cavaliers have contacted the San Antonio Spurs about Kawhi Leonard, according to a report, although it is unclear what trade package could be put up for a deal to push through.
With LeBron James’ impending free agency, the Cavs are looking to make moves and Terry Pluto of Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer said the team has inquired about Leonard.
The 26-year-old Leonard has reportedly asked to be traded, with the Los Angeles Lakers said to be the preferred destination.
Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker could also be "in play" for the Cavaliers, according to Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon.
Like other teams that have expressed interest, the Cavaliers face a tough task of assembling a trade package to acquire Leonard.
Larry Nance and young Cedi Osman have drawn a lot of trade interest, according to Pluto.
The report also noted that while players like Fil-Am Jordan Clarkson can become valuable pieces of the squad, they can be traded.
James has until June 29 to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Cavaliers.
