THE Boston Celtics withstood a 36-point fourth quarter charge from the Brooklyn Nets to win its season opener, 122-117, at the TD Garden on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
Point guard Isaiah Thomas led all scorers with 25 points and added nine assists for the Celtics, while his backcourt mate Avery Bradley posted 17 markers, nine rebounds and five assists. Jae Crowder finished also added 21, while new acquisition Al Horford had 11 points, six assists and four blocks.
Bojan Bogdanovic led the Nets with 21 points and five rebounds. Fellow big man Justin Hamilton was a revelation off the bench, contributing 19 points and 10 rebounds in a losing cause.
The Celtics overcame 19 turnovers with defensive effort with a combined 13 steals and nine blocks.
