JEFF VIERNES scored 14, Maclean Sabellina had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and four other teammates scored in double digits as Boracay Rum thrashed Erase Xfoliant, 82-61, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at Arellano Gym.
Up by four, 40-36, in the second frame, Boracay went on to dictate the tempo in third period and put up a 17-point lead, 66-49, with 1:33 left.
Boracay continued to dominate in the final canto and widened the gap, 71-53, holding Erase Xfoliant to just eight points while coming up with 15 to grab its third win in eight games. The Waves are running ninth, but only six teams will move on to the next phase.
"We have to sweep (our remaining games)," said Boracay Rum coach Lawrence Chongson, explaining their chances of making it to the quarterfinals. "Nakwenta ko na, unless namalikmata ako or mali ako sa math."
The top two after the eliminations advance to the semifinals outright, while the teams in third to sixth places will play in the quarterfinals.
Stephen Siruma added 13 points, while Ken Acibar, Raymund Ilagan and Roider Cabrera made 10 apiece for Boracay.
Boracay Rum had 52 rebounds, while Erase Xfoliant pulled down 38.
Jett Vidal came away with 14 markers, while Marlon Gomez and Nate Matute chipped in 11 and 10, respectively, for Erase Xfoliant, which now holds a 2-6 win-loss record.
