BOBBY Ray Parks scored his first point in the NBA Summer League from the free throw line in Dallas’ 80-93 loss to Portland on Sunday (Monday Manila time) at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Parks headed to the line after he was fouled by Portland’s Pat Connaughton on a fastbreak play with 9:19 left in the second quarter in his second game with the Mavericks' Summer League side.
The former National University standout missed the first but made the second free throw to highlight a seven-minute, 52-second stint that was more eventful that his appearance in a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.
The 22-year-old guard also grabbed an offensive rebound while committing a turnover and a foul before a crowd that included NU owner and Parks patron Hans Sy, who sat a few seats away from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Dwight Powell had 25 points for the Mavericks, who are now 0-2 win-loss in their Summer League campaign.
Allen Crabbe scored 24 points for the Trail Blazers, who also had former PBA import Daniel Orton in the roster. Orton played for Purefoods in the Commissioner’s Cup but was sent home after negative comments he made about the PBA and Kia playing coach Manny Pacquiao.
Parks and the Mavericks take a break before playing the Washington Wizards on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time) at the Thomas and Mack Center.
