AFTER having one of the worst seasons in his NBA career, Blake Griffin is reportedly bent on re-signing with the Los Angeles Clippers before his impending free agency in 2017.

In a report by Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time), sources close to the high-leaping forward said Griffin does not have plans to opt out of his contract in his last year and become a free agent, despite being the constant subject of trade rumors after a dismal 2015-16 campaign,

Kyler added that Clippers president and coach Doc Rivers sees Griffin staying and even retiring with the Clippers, the same way he thinks of their other star and looming free agent Chris Paul. Rivers is reportedly not open to trade talks involving the Clipper duo for the upcoming season.

Last year, the 27-year-old Griffin averaged 21.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists--significantly similar to his career averages. Yt the 2009 top pick missed 41 games last season due to a variety of injuries, starting with a partially torn left quad tendon. He also fractured his hand after he punched the team’s equipment manager.

During the playoffs, the 6-8 big man aggravated his quad injury during the Clippers’ series against the Portland Trailblazers. The season-ending injury and Chris Paul’s broken hand in the same game sealed the team’s fate and an early exit.
