WHEN healthy, Al Jefferson has been a force for the Charlotte Hornets.
And the Hornets big man believes he can maintain his strong presence in the paint, even without all of the 287 pounds he has been carrying on his legs for the past five years
The 30-year-old Jefferson, who missed 17 games last season, went on a strict training and diet program this offseason and says he has lost over 20 pounds.
One of the keys is not eating fried chicken. And he says he managed to stop craving by, among others, turning away when fast food commercials go on.
“Every Popeye’s commercial I see, I have to turn the TV off,” Jefferson told the Charlotte Observer.
“One thing about losing weight: It becomes a lot easier once you become disciplined about what you’re eating. Cutting out the sugar and the starch. Taking care of your body. Once I got into a routine it became pretty easy. And I knew what I was doing it for – to take some of the weight off my knees and getting my body into better shape than last year,” Jefferson added.
