KOBE Bryant gave his all to Los Angeles in his 20 legendary seasons as a Laker in the NBA. Now the city pays back the love to the Black Mamba.

In a statement released on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time), the Los Angeles City council officially declared August 24 as ‘Kobe Bryant Day’ in honor of the retired Lakers star. The date holds special significance since it stands for the two numbers the five-time NBA champion wore as a member of the Lakers.

“Kobe Bryant’s 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers ranks him No.1 All-time for NBA players who played for a single franchise, and ‘Kobe Bryant Day’ is the city of Los Angeles’ way of thanking him for his single-minded dedication to excellence, the fans and the entire city and region of Los Angeles,” said LA City Councilman Jose Huizar.

Bryant retired last April in memorable fashion after scoring a record-setting 60 points in his final game at the Staples Center.
