ANOTHER NBA Finals rematch between the reigning champs Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors looms as the centerpiece of the league’s annual Christmas Day games, while Oklahoma City will have to wait for February to welcome back its former star Kevin Durant and his new Warriors team.
According to Mark Medina of Los Angeles Daily News, the NBA is set to release the 2016-2017 regular season schedule on Thursday (Friday, Manila time), which will be broadcast on NBA TV. The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach also shared the same report on his Twitter account.
League sources also told ESPN’s Marc Stein about a repeat of last Christmas’ showdown between Cleveland and Golden State, only this time in the defending champion Cavaliers own homecourt advantage.
Then Durant and the Warriors brace for a tumultuous battle against Russell Westbrook and the OKC Thunder in the 2014 MVP’s old stomping grounds provisionally set on February 11 (February 12, Manila time).
The first encounter between Golden State and Oklahoma City, however, is set much earlier in Oakland on November 3, although these dates remain tentative until the official schedule is announced.
Meanwhile, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that Dwyane Wade could also make a Heat homecoming as a member of the Chicago Bulls on November 10.
