    GSIS, AFP, NHA dispatch separate foes to sustain surge in UNTV Cup

    NATIONAL Housing Authority continued its hot run, this time claiming the scalp of defending champion Philippine National Police (PNP), 83-77, in the 6th UNTV Cup held Thursday at the Upper Deck Sports Center in Pasig City.

    Alvin Vitug and Anton Lustestica sparked the team’s decisive second quarter breakaway to jumpstart their second round campaign with a bang.

    Vitug sizzled for 25 points while Lustestica added 20 points as the NHA Builders improved to 6-1 in the event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.

    Razon recently received an AnakTV award for organizing a child-friendly basketball tournament.

    Equally impressive was Armed Forces of the Philippines which outlasted fellow two-time champion Judiciary, 74-62, thanks to former Letran star Boyet Bautista, Jeffrey Quiambao and Winston Sergio

    Romero Almerol led the team with 16 points but it was the troika who struck hardest in the payoff period as AFP likewise took the lead in Group A with a 6-1 mark.

    Meanwhile, GSIS streaked to its third straight win and fifth overall in seven games with 89-81 win over the PDEA Drug Busters in third game of the event offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
