A seventh team in SCTEX is joining the ongoing Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL) Chairman’s Cup.

SCTEX is the same NLEX side that won the championship in the recent MVP Olympics and as a reward, the team was tasked by the MVP Group of Companies to represent the corporation in the fledgling league headed by chairman Buddy Encarnado and new commissioner Joel Banal.

“This is the incentive we got for winning the MVP Olympics. The higher management trusted our team to represent MVP Group in the PCBL and it’s really an honor for us,” said team manager Ronald Dulatre. “Our modest goal is to reach the playoffs and see what happens from there.”

Dulatre is also the team manager of NLEX in the PBA, who is tapping Adonis Tierra, assistant coach of Boyet Fernandez with the Road Warriors in the pro league, to handle the PCBL squad.

The Manila North Tollways Corporation-owned franchise will be beefed up by ex-pros Ervin Sotto, and Ford Arao, along with former San Beda guard Borgie Hermida.

Encarnado said the inclusion of SCTEX has long been discussed with top executives of the MVP Group.

“I’ve initially talked to Mr. Al Panlilio (Meralco and head of the MVP Sports Foundation) and we’ve discussed the plans of having the champion of the MVP Olympics joining PCBL. That’s how supportive the MVP Group is of the PCBL and now it has become a reality,” said Encarnado.
