FOUR of the top five 3x3 players in the country join forces as coach Eric Altamirano gets his first look at the potential Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 squad for next year's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, and Troy Rike represent the country in the Jakarta 3x3 International Invitational Challenge 2019 this weekend.
"This will be a good first look on one of the combinations we can use for the OQT," said Altamirano, the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 league commissioner.
"More importantly, we joined this short tournament to keep our players sharp before we head into full throttle with our preparation this January."
The Filipino side will be tested against SEA Games-bound national teams of Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, as well as Chinese Taipei in this invitational tournament organized by the Indonesian basketball federation PERBASI.
The top two teams after the single round elimination will compete in the championship.
It's a refreshing experience for the top 3x3 players in the country as they get to team up after nine months of competing against each other.
"We’ve been going at it all year long, I’ve seen how great of a player he is up close. I’m pretty excited for us to be playing on the same team and make some noise representing the country," said Munzon, the top-rated Filipino 3x3 player who represented Pasig.
"Syempre, excited na excited ako makasama si Josh. Hindi ko pa siya naging kakampi eh," added Pasaol, the no. 2 in the Philippines and suited up for Balanga with Santillan.
"Siguro, preview ito kung ano ang magagawa namin para sa OQT."
