JOSHUA Munzon showed why he is the top 3x3 player in the country, towing Pasig Grindhouse Kings to a 19-7 triumph over 1Bataan Risers in the Grand Finals of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President's Cup.
The Fil-Am swingman fired 11 points, none bigger than his long bomb with 1:20 to play that made it a 14-6 affair and all but secured victory for Pasig at the SM Fairview Events Center on Sunday afternoon.
Taylor Statham added five points, Troy Rike contributed two and replacement Leo de Vera scored one for the Kings, who took home the P1 million cash prize as they finished the five tours on top of the standings with 460 points, winning three tours.
Alvin Pasaol carried 1Bataan with five points as it settled for runner-up honors and the P200,000 prize.
The two teams will represent the country in the Chooks-to-Go 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest next weekend at SM Megamall, while Pasig earlier booked its ticket to the Doha Masters of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour in April.
"It's attributed to our hardwork. Since we first lost in this league, that really left a bad taste in our mouths. We're driven every week to push ourselves to get better," said Munzon, who was hailed as the Best Player of the League and took home an additional P50,000.
In the side events, Kobe Paras dazzled the crowd with an off-the-glass one-handed slam to beat David Carlos in the slam-dunk contest while Carga Valenzuela's Chris de Chavez outgunned Pasay's Jaypee Belencion to win the Three-Point Shootout.
PASIG 19 - Munzon 11, Statham 5, Rike 2, De Vera 1.
