THE Mindoro Tamaraws rode the hot hands of Joseph Sedurifa and Wendel Comboy to subdue the Sarangani Grippers, 79-65, on Wednesday in the MPBL 2025 Season at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
Sedurifa scored all of his 18 points in the second half, all of which coming from threes. Comboy, on the other hand, drained five threes to finish with 17 as the Tamaraws recovered from a sluggish start to level their slate at 8-8 in the round-robin elimination phase of the 30-team tournament.
The 6-foot-1 Sedurifa added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals to his output and clinched best player honors over Comboy, who also collected five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Other Tamaraws who delivered were RJ Ramirez with 12 points and three assists, and Bam Gamalinda with 11 points.
Trailing, 29-33, early in the third quarter, the Tamaraws clustered 13 points behind Sedurifa's three triples and Axel Inigo's back-to-back drives to seize control, 42-39.
Back-to-back triples by Sedurifa and Brandrey Bienes pushed Mindoro's lead beyond reach, 77-57, with less than two minutes to go.
The Grippers struggled from afar and canned only three of 17 from downtown, dropping to 4-11.
Sarangani got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Lars Sung and 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists from Kyt Jimenez.
The MPBL returns to the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan City on Thursday, with games pitting Bataan against Quezon City at 4 p.m., Cebu against Batangas at 6 p.m., and Nueva Ecija against Zamboanga at 8 p.m.
