IT was business as usual for MPBL South Division champion Quezon after taking down Mindoro, 89-63, on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The Huskers came out the gates firing, nearly doubling Mindoro’s output in the first quarter at 28-15 before entering the break with a 41-25 halftime lead.
Joseph Sedurifa tried to make it interesting in the third, scoring all 10 of his points in that stretch, but that turned out to be the last stand of the Tamaraws as Michael Canete powered a huge fourth quarter for the Huskers to cruise to the finish line.
“Nagtutulungan lang talaga kami kasi kami yung mga kuya nila, mas maraming nakakabata. So naging leader lang kami para sa kanila," Canete said.
He finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, but also sang praises of a more detail-oriented team that allowed them to remain spotless so far, even with so many key losses from last year’s iteration that made the national finals.
“Lahat talaga kami sa Quezon nakikinig sa coach [pati] sa management para makuha namin yung pinapagawa ng mga boss namin," he said.
Christian Pagaran led the bench with 14 points of his own, while their new rookies from the UAAP in Jolo Manansala and John Abate also joined the party in their fourth-quarter masterclass.
Jolo Manansala delivered 12 points and six rebounds, while Abate had 10 points, seven boards, and four assists.
On the losing side, Marion Magat had 13 points and eight rebounds to flank Sedurifa as Mindoro dropped to 1-2.
