SOUTH Division champion Quezon opened its 2026 MPBL campaign on a high note, grinding out a 66-59 win over Biñan on Tuesday at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
In a game that leaned heavily on defense, both squads found it tough to get into rhythm, with neither side able to pull away through the first three quarters.
Biñan stayed within striking distance trailing by just four, 48-44, heading into the final frame.
That’s when the Huskers flipped the switch.
Quezon opened the fourth with a telling 10-4 run to finally create separation, with Cyrus Tabi knocking down a triple to stretch the lead to double digits and put the game in their control.
Nic Cabañero tried to will Binan back, trimming the deficit late, but Tabi had the final say, burying another three to silence the rally and seal the deal.
Michael Cañete paced the Huskers with 14 points and four rebounds, while Will McAloney stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
Tabi and Judel Fuentes chipped in 11 apiece in the win.
Cedrick Manzano makes MPBL Debut
All eyes were also on Cedrick Manzano, who made his pro debut and delivered a steady outing with seven points, five rebounds, and two assists.
More importantly, the former Adamson big man held his ground defensively against veteran Marc Pingris, limiting him to just six points and three boards.
“Siguro, kaya ko nagawa ’yun kasi may game plan naman kami sa kanya. Sinunod ko lang ’yung pinagawa sa akin ng coach,” Manzano told SPIN.ph.
With the loss, Biñan dropped to 1-2, despite Cabañero’s 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Pamboy Raymundo and Kenny Rocacurva added 13 and 12 respectively in a losing effort.
